The story begins in Orpheus’s attic, where seven musical notes live harmoniously on the staff. Do, the most mischievous of them all, cannot contain her curiosity about her father’s brushes. Despite her sisters’ warnings, she decides to escape the safety of the staff to meet them. On her adventure, she encounters the Harp who protects her, the Whisper who advises her, and finally the mysterious Inspiration. Inspiration reveals to Do a shocking secret: Orpheus’s brushes are not mere painting tools, but enchanted melodies—her own siblings! Through the narrative, we learn the story of two siblings, the musician Arion and the painter Zeuxis, and how the evil witch Falsa, consumed by jealousy and hatred, transformed melodies into brushes to destroy their art. Now only Do has the power to break the spell.
Imagine a musical note that comes to life, a curious Do who refuses to stay safe on the musical staff but yearns to explore the world. This magical story by Maria Tsakiridou is far more than a simple children’s fairy tale—it is a gateway to a world where music and painting meet, where notes have personalities, and brushes hide secrets. This book is a treasure for those who believe in art’s power to connect and inspire us. Through Do’s adventure, children learn about musical scales, notes, and painting, but above all, about the courage to follow their hearts. The author masterfully makes complex musical and artistic concepts accessible, while telling a story filled with magic and adventure.
This book is ideal for children aged 6-12 who love music, painting, or magical adventure stories. Parents and educators will appreciate its educational value, as it introduces children to music theory in an entertaining way. It is also excellent for those learning Greek as a second language, as the simple yet rich language lends itself to learning. Particularly suitable for children taking music or painting lessons, as they will feel a special connection to the story’s protagonists.
